Wine Labels, also known as decanter
labels or bottle tickets, adorn decanters to identify their contents - wines,
spirits, sauces, toilet waters or medicines. Bin labels are another area of
interest.
Labels: Silver wine labels are particularly
attractive; other appealing materials include silver plate, colourful enamels and
mother-of-pearl. Both antique silver wine labels and contemporary designs
are studied but paper wine labels are not covered by the Circle.
The Circle was
founded in 1952 by collectors of silver wine labels and today has some 165 members in a dozen countries and warmly welcomes new
members, whatever their interests or knowledge.
Meetings
take place in the Spring (next 17 May 2012) and the Autumn to view and discuss silver decanter
labels and labels in other materials. Details of future meetings and
descriptions of
earlier meetings are on the
Meetings page.
Publications include a twice yearly Journal
(Autumn 2011 was published mid-September)
and two Books, on wine & spirit labels and sauce labels, both available
from the Circle at attractive prices.
Latest News
includes details of fairs and auctions, with a major one in June at Dukes of
Dorchester, while the Links page shows
