An association for those with an interest in the studying and collecting of decanter labels, furthering research into their history and encouraging contemporary design

Wine Labels, also called decanter labels or bottle tickets, hang around the necks of decanters to identify the contents - wines, spirits, sauces, toilet waters or medicines. Silver wine labels are particularly attractive; other materials used include silver plate, enamel, pottery and mother-of-pearl. Silver wine labels are different from paper wine labels, which are not covered by this Circle.

The Circle was founded in 1952 by collectors of silver wine labels and today has some 170 members in a dozen countries and warmly welcomes new members, whatever their interests or knowledge.  Meetings take place in the Spring and Autumn to view and discuss silver wine labels and labels in other materials - details of the October 2008 one appear on the Meetings page. In 2009 the Spring meeting will be on 14 May and the Autumn on 23 & 24 October in Birmingham.

Publications: The Circle publishes a Journal twice a year and has also published two Books “Sauce Labels” and “Wine Labels 1730-2003 A Worldwide History” - BOTH AVAILABLE FROM THE CIRCLE AT BEST PRICES. Do please contact us by email if you are interested in the books or in joining the Circle.
